Seminar Project
Project Title: Across the Universe: Cross Cultural Marriages
(เขยนอก-เมียฝรั่ง: รู้ทันรักต่างแดน)
Organizer: Rangsit University International College (RIC)
Co-organizers: International Business Department and Student Activity Affairs
Rationale and Background:
Rangsit University International College (RIC) provides four majors including International Business, International Relations and Development, Communication Arts and Information and Communication Technology. There are approximately 400 students studying in RIC consisting of over 20 different nationalities.
RIC’s goal is to provide an international standard of education, promote diversity and importantly portray the beautiful and rich culture of Thailand. Thus, one of our missions is to enhance the student’s experience through cross cultural activities and exchanges both inside and outside the classroom setting.
Thailand has become a very popular destination among foreigners both as travelers and exchange students. Many foreigners are interested in Thai culture and get involved in cross cultural relationships, and many times these relationships result in marriage. These marriages can be very joyous, but other times can lead to arguments and relationship quarrels. Expectations for both partners can be very different, and these differences in cultural expectations can cause problems. Some examples of spousal troubles can occur through differences in language, values, beliefs and traditions.
The International College acknowledges the current trends between cross cultural marriages and would like to conduct a seminar targeted for RSU students and the surrounding community. The seminar serves to offer a greater awareness between cross cultural marriages through understanding and acceptance of other cultures. Awareness of spousal basic rights will also be addressed for those living with their partner in a foreign country.
